SAN FRANCISCO – A 23-year-old journalism graduate of George Washington University ran away with five trophies at the Fifth Plaridel Awards held Friday, Oct. 7 to a packed Kalayaan Hall at the Philippine Center on Sutter Street in San Francisco.
Christina Oriel of Asian Journal racked up a first in the history of The Plaridel, which provides a platform for previously unknown journalists covering the Filipino American community. She topped in five reporting categories.

Activities
Through the years, PAPC has been known for its “Kapihan” which is an informal forum taking on the spin of “over a cup of coffee” conversation which encourages candor and engagement with the community. Also, in the past several years, PAPC has also created two programs that recognize outstanding journalists, and community trailblazers. The Plaridel Awards celebrates excellence in journalism, while The Torch Bearer Awards, honors individuals and journalists that has made considerable impact in the community.
