The Philippine American Press Club, USA (PAPC-USA) is composed of journalists and publishers who banded together to foster camaraderie among its ranks and to create a strong united voice to support the community on relevant issues, having realized early on its inception the vital role of media education and advocacy for the fast growing Filipino population.
The goals of the Press Club are to primarily expand membership and encourage participation in the activities that lead to achieving the club’s mission statement. As such we strive to do the following: (a) Preserve freedom of the press and the free flow and exchange of information in society; (b) Promote the professional advancement of Filipino American journalists and media practitioners; (c) Provide a forum for the discussion of issues of interest to its members and to initiate programs beneficial to its members and the community at large; (d) Promote cooperation and understanding among its members and the community.
Through the years, PAPC has been known for its “Kapihan” which is an informal forum taking on the spin of “over a cup of coffee” conversation which encourages candor and engagement with the community. Also, in the past several years, PAPC has also created two programs that recognize outstanding journalists, and community trailblazers. The Plaridel Awards celebrates excellence in journalism, while The Torch Bearer Awards, honors individuals and journalists that has made considerable impact in the community.
